Origin
Spider Plants originally come from south-west Africa; they got introduced into Europe around the 18th century. The scientific name for a spider plant is Chlorophytum comosum.
Size
A spider plant can grow to about 60 cm tall. Its leaves are about 15-60 cm long, and their widths are about 0.2 - 2.5 cm. Its roots grow 15-20 cm long.
Environment
Spider plants only like moderate light. Try to avoid areas with direct sunlight; bright areas are suitable for the spider plants and make them happy. Every 1-2 weeks water it with about 3 cm of water. In a few weeks, your plant is going to be fit.
Benefits
- Produces oxygen: Spider plants release a fair amount of oxygen, making it one of the homes' best friends.
- Happy vibes: Its light green colour and its springy spidery look gives a feeling of happiness and releases anger and stress.
- Removes toxic and purifies the air: it may not be an air-purifying machine. However, spider plants can purify the air from smoke and are toxic in small amounts.
- Increase productively: you suck the clean, happy air in then you can focus better when struggling.
Care
Watering: If the plant is about 16-27 cm big you should water it 400 ml every week. If the plant watered less than that, it could dry up and die, and if the plant were about 27-30 cm big, it would need 500-600ml every week. If the plant is about 40-55 cm big, it should be watered about 700 ml to 1L.
Sunlight: A Chlorophytum comosum doesn't like direct sunlight, but it needs bright places. And it looks gorgeous in the light.
Offspring
The mother plant has offspring which are called plantlets and spider lets that are connected to long shots. These plantlets can be removed and can be grown into new plants. To grow plantlets simply place them in a glass of water and the roots will grow in about two weeks, the plantlets can then planted into the soil, and a new beautiful plant will appear.
Illnesses
The most common illnesses of a spider plant are:Root rot and leaf rot. If your spider plant has root rot, then unfortunately your plant will most likely die. If your plant has leaf rot it then it won't look so nice, and it won't give out so much fresh air.
